Massive congratulations to Elddis driver Andy Mitchell who this month was awarded the North East Truck Driver of the Year by the North East Freight Partnership.

Andy is Elddis’s longest serving driver having joined the company in 1971 within its first month of operation. He has remained with the business continuously since that time. Well-deserved recognition for almost 45 years of loyal service.

Monday 29th June one of our newest drivers; Graham Charlesworth spoke to an audience of MP’s, Lord’s, Senior Army Personnel and Major Employers in the Houses of Parliament on his journey from full time soldier to HGV driver and member of the Reservists.

Elddis saw potential in Graham, but he did not have the required Drivers CPC and had only driven drawbar vehicles in his time in the army. Through the Elddis team and SABRE (Support for British Reservists and Employers),  we put together a bespoke program that got Graham the required qualifications and also provided him with a mentor within Elddis. He spent 2 weeks working alongside his mentor, also ex-forces, who helped him make the transition to General Haulage.

The project with Graham was seen by the Reservists as an example of best practise, which is the reason for Graham’s invite to London. Helen Nixon, Elddis HR Manager helped put together the plan and accompanied him to London, and even managed to get to watch Prime Ministers Question Time from the Gallery.

Well done Graham, you did Elddis proud. Hopefully now the project has proved successful, there will be many more Graham’s joining Team Elddis.
